PURPOSE:To execute digital sound recording in a domestic VTR, and also, to easily and exactly reproduce a recorded digital audio signal by inserting and recording a pattern whose code is inverted at every 2 bits, into a gap of a PCM audio signal or a digital data which has been brought to a time base compression. CONSTITUTION:An audio signal is converted to a digital signal temporarily by an A/D converter 10, and thereafter, a synchronizing signal and a correcting code are generated and added by a digital processing circuit 11, and by performing an interleave processing, a digital data is compressed to a time base direction. Between digital data which have been brought to a time compression, a repeated pattern of '0011' which is sent out by a pattern generating circuit 12 is added, and in a recording signal spectrum, an O-QDPSK modulation is executed so that its spectrum is held between occupied areas of a low band conversion chromaticity signal and a low carrier wave FM luminance signal, by an O-QDPSK modulating circuit 14. Subsequently, an O-QDPSK modulating signal is recorded in advance of video recording, onto a video track by using audio exclusive heads 16a, 16b whose azimuth angle is difference from that of heads 8a, 8b for video.
