PURPOSE:To exactly measure the concn. of a combustible gas in the state of eliminating the danger of a gas explosion by constituting either a gate electrode or source electrode of an FET of a platinum group metal and the other of a metal which does not react with the combustible gas. CONSTITUTION:Either of the gate electrode 6 and source electrode 7 of the FET is formed of the platinum group metal and the other is formed of the metal (for example, silver) which does not react with the combustible gas. Both electrodes 6, 7 are coated with a gas permeable proton conductor film 8. The combustible gas is conducted through the conductor film 8 to the electrode formed of the platinum group metal and is cracked and formed by the catalytic effect of the platinum group metal, by which electrons are accumulated. The free transmission of the cracked and formed proton through the conductor film 8 and the recombination thereof with the electrons are prevented; in addition, the potential of the electrode formed of the metal (silver) which does not react with the combustible gas is maintained at the prescribed potential without being affected by the concn. of the combustible gas.
