The invention relates to an A-pillar for motor vehicles making it possible to minimise the obstruction of the field of view of the driver. The narrow A-pillar 6 is composed of two sections 4, 5 assembled along pairs of tabs to be welded 11, 12; 13, 14, the outer tab of the first tabs 11, 12 to be welded, parallel to the windscreen 15, constituting a support surface 16 allowing the windscreen 15 to be bonded. One of the two sections 5 has, at the base of its tab 12, a zone 21 with reduced resistance to folding. In order to leave an opening 17 allowing the insertion of a welding electrode 18 during the welding operation for the first two tabs to be welded 11, 12, the section 5 is only folded down about the zone 21 of reduced resistance to folding, thus giving it its definitive shape in which the tabs 13, 14 are pressed against one another, after the first tabs 11, 12 have been welded. Field of application: vehicle bodyworks. <IMAGE>
