FIRE PROTECTIVE INTUMESCENT MASTIC COMPOSITION

(a) an epoxy resin; (b) a curing agent for the epoxy resin; and (C) an additive component comprising a mixt. to provide a source of phosphorus; zinc; boron; and expansion gas on thermal decompsn., the compsn. being capable of forming a carbonaceous char on exposure to heat or flame. A process for protecting a substrate from fire and excessive heat comprisiong: (I) applying the intumescent compsn. to the surface; and (II) overlaying the compsn. with a mesh member. The compsn. is esp. useful in the protection of structural steel members in buildings.
