PURPOSE:To enable optical writing with a low-output semiconductor laser and high-speed recording to be performed, by a method wherein an optical recording medium having a recording layer comprising a polydiacetylene derivative and a pyrylium dye is irradiated with light according to recording information, thereby providing the recording layer with pits consisting of recessed parts. CONSTITUTION:Recording information is converted into an optical signal by a semiconductor laser through a controlling circuit. The signal is led through an optical system to a predetermined position of an optical recording medium, thereby forming an image. A pyrylium dye present at an image-forming point 3 absorbs the laser beam 4, and generates heat, by which a recording layer 2 at the point 3 is melted, and a pit consisting of a recessed part 5 is formed. With a polydiacetylene derivative provided in the recording layer 2, the formation of the pit under the function of the pyrylium dye is markedly accelerated. With this arrangement, a high sensitivity to a semiconductor laser beam is ensured, and when the semiconductor laser with the same output is used, the duration of exposure to the laser beam is shortened as compared with that in the case of a conventional optical recording medium. |
