The round brush (1) has bristle tufts (8) which are fastened to an internal bristle carrier (7) and extend outwards in each case through an opening (30) in a covering (6) which surrounds the bristle carrier (7) with spacing. By means of a slide ring (11) which surrounds the handle (2) of the round brush (1), the bristle carrier (7) can be retracted in relation to the covering (6) which is firmly connected to the handle (2), such that the bristle tufts (8) retract into the covering (6) to the extent that the bristle ends move into the openings (30) and the brush part (5) is given a smooth surface which allows the brush part (5) to be pulled out of a wound curl of hair. The actuation can take place in a simple manner using the thumb and index finger of the hand holding the round brush counter to the pressure of a spring (13) enclosed in the handle (2). <IMAGE>
