PRODUCTION OF PHOSPHORUS-CONTAINING POLY HYDROXYL COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound effective in imparting high flame- retardancy to a polyurethane resin without lowering the foamability and strength of the resin, by reacting tris (hydroxypropyl) phosphine oxide with an alkylene oxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting (A) tris (hydroxypropyl) phosphine oxide with (B) an alkylene oxide (e.g. ethylene oxide) or styrene oxide in the presence of preferably 0.05-1 (wt)% alkali or acid catalyst. The amount of the component A is preferably 5-70% for the production of a polyurethane resin and 5-40% for the production of a phenolic resin.
