PURPOSE:To maintain high processing accuracy even after tool replacement by making a tool retaining construction for a complex machine tool etc. in such a way that a torque in a certain direction is applied to a tool within a tool retaining hole and the tool can thereby be held in a high locational accuracy. CONSTITUTION:Torque applying means 5a, 7b are installed, which are to give a torque in a certain direction to a tool 7 within a tool retaining hole 2 and move the tool 7 so that No.1 and No.2 locational detaining means 6, 7d contact always at a fixed point P1. Accordingly the tool 7 is rotated in a certain direc tion by said torque applying means 5a, 7b when the tool 7 is to be retained in the said tool retaining hole 2, and the No.1 and No.2 locational detaining means 6, 7d come in engagement always at the fixed point P1. Thereby the cutting edge 7g of the tool 7 is held in a certain position whether a tool replace ment occurs or not.
