PURPOSE:To grasp the accurate storage state by operating and displaying a recordable unit number remained on a magnetic sheet from the recording state of a track from a detection means and mode information from a mode selection means. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic sheet is driven by a motor 2 and a head 3 is applied to recording/reproducing. A head drive mechanism 4 is operated by a drive pulse generating circuit 6 in a system control circuit 5 and a mode switch 15 moves the head 3 by 1 track each at the field recording and two tracks each at the frame recording. The recording/reproduction by the head 3 is selected by a changeover switch 8, which is controlled by a CPU 7. A reproducing signal is fed to a reproducing signal processing circuit 12 through a reproducing amplifier 11, a discrimination circuit 13 discriminates the presence of a recording signal and the result of discrimination is fed to the CPU 7. An operation circuit 14 operates the remaining recording enable number and displays the result on a display circuit 16. Thus, the accurate storage state is grasped.
