PURPOSE:To prevent fogging and to improve lowering of contrast of gradation at the toe of the characteristic curve by incorporating a specified magenta coupler, a specified phenol compound, and a high-boiling organic solvent having a specified dielectric constant in a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion layer contains the magenta coupler represented by formula I and the phenol compound represented by formula II. In formulae I and II, Z is an N-containing hetero ring; X is H or a substituent to be released by the coupling reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent; R is H or a substituent; each of R1 and R2 is alkyl; n is 1-20; k is 1 or 2; A is -CO-X-R3; X is -O- or -NR4-; each of R3 and R4 is H, alkyl, aryl, or the like; B is alkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic group, or the like. This layer also contains the high-boiling organic solvent having a dielectric constant of <=6.0, such as phthalate, thus permitting yellow stains and side absorption of the coupler to be lessened, fog to be prevented, and lowering of contrast of gradation at the toe of the characteristic curve to be improved. |
