PURPOSE:To improve gas emissivity and to provide a combustion method having excellent combustion efficiency, by a method wherein a specified amount of gas, containing oxygen, in which gas having excellent gas emissivity is mixed in oxygen, is used as gas for combustion, and meanwhile, by using fuel having a less nitrogen content, a nitrogen partial pressure in a combustion device is decreased. CONSTITUTION:The tip of a piping 4 for feeding oxygen gas and the tip of a piping 5 for feeding fuel are connected to a burner 2, and the base end of the piping 5 is connected to a feed source for fuel containing nitrogen of 10vol% or less. A composition of mixed gas and oxygen gas, fed to the burner 2, is regulated by valves 3a and 4a so that a total sum of oxygen gas, carbon dioxide, and a moisture content is 50vol% or more and oxygen gas is 21vol% or more. Fuel fed to the burner 2 is burnt in the presence of oxygen gas in gas containing oxygen to heat a steel piece in a heating furnace 1. Thus, since fuel having a less nitrogen content is used, a nitrogen partial pressure in a combustion burner can be reduced, and heating efficiency can be improved.
