PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a high-speed rotor for the production of inorganic short fiber and to prevent the deterioration of the quality of produced fiber with time, by coating the surface of the rotor contacting with molten inorganic raw material with a material having high heat-resistance and corrosion resistance. CONSTITUTION:The objective apparatus for production of inorganic short fiber has a rotor 2 rotating at a high speed and supplied with molten inorganic raw material 5 (shown by arrow A) and a gas inlet port 3 to eject gas stream B against the circumference of the rotor 2. The surface of the rotor 2 contacting with the molten material 5 is coated (8) with one or more layers of at least one kind of material selected from heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant metal, ceramic and metal-ceramic composite. The above material constituting the coating layer 8 is e.g. nickel, chromium, aluminum, molybdenum, their alloy, oxide, carbide or nitride of tungsten, zirconium, silicon, titanium, etc., or their mixture or a composite of the above material with metals. The coating of the surface of the rotor is preferably carried out by plasma spraying.
