PURPOSE:To make a sheet conveying direction convertible in a noncontact state all the time, by installing each static pressure holding weir projectingly in each edge part of both carry-in and carry-out sides of a web conveying direction converter opening a lot of gas blowing ports to a guide surface. CONSTITUTION:A web conveying direction converter opening a lot of gas blowing ports 12 to a guide surface 11 displaces a static pressure holding surface at the carry-in side to the more inward side than a tangent T1 position in an edge part 11a at the carry-out side of the guide surface, while installs a static holding weir 15 at the carry-in side projectingly in an edge 13a at the carry-in side. Likewise, it displaces a static pressure holding surface 14 at the carry-out side to the inward, while installs a static pressure holding weir 16 at the carry-out side projectingly in an edge part at the carry-out side. Therefore, the gas spouted out of a gas blowing port 12 is checked of its movement by both these weirs 15 and 16, and a compressed gas layer is thickly formed between both these static pressure holding surfaces 13 and 14 as well as between the guide surface 11 and a sheet S while separating this sheet S from respective tips 15a and 16a of both weirs. Thus, a conveying direction of the sheet S is smoothly convertible in a noncontact state at all times.
