PURPOSE:To obtain the titled catalyst which is highly active, scarcely decreases in activity and stereoregular polymerization function even when hydrogen is present during polymerization and can lower a residual chlorine content to a negligible degree, by using a specified catalyst component, a specified silicon compound and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:The titled catalyst comprising a catalyst component (A) obtained by drying a composition obtained by suspending dialkoxymagnesium (e.g., diethoxymagnesium) in a normally liquid aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g., toluene) and contacting this dispersion with a titanium halide of formula I [wherein X is a halogen), e.g, TiCl4, contacting the dried product again with a titanium halide and contacting the product with a diester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g., dibutyl phthalate) during the above operations, a silicon compound (B) of formula II (wherein R is H, alkyl or aryl, R' is alkyl or aryl and m is in the range of 0<=m<=4), e.g., phenyltriethoxysilane, and an organoaluminum compound (e.g., triethylaluminum).
