Exhaust emission control for a diesel engine

The invention relates to a method of exhaust emission control for a diesel engine, the exhaust gas, after passing through a soot filter (3), being fed back into the intake line (6) and individual cylinders (2) of the diesel engine being shut off if the temperature of the exhaust gas fails to reach a temperature necessary for regeneration of the soot filter (3). By this method the soot and nitrogen oxides are essentially removed from the exhaust gas without thereby increasing engine wear (Fig. 1).
