Method of adjusting the "gold colour" in the colour range between 0N and 3N as specified in DIN 8238 in the electrodeposition of low-carat gold/copper/zinc alloys from an electrolyte. The electrolyte contains zinc as a complex alkali zinc cyanide and/or as an alkali zinc chelate, gold as alkali gold cyanide, copper as alkali copper cyanide and additional alkali cyanide. The electrolyte is provided with at least one zinc chelating agent based on an aliphatic monobasic or polybasic aminocarboxylic acid and/or an aliphatic monobasic or polybasic aminophosphonic acid and/or on its salts. At least one zinc chelating agent which contains at least one amino group which has not been alkylated up to the tertiary amine is added to the electrolyte, and the "gold colour" is controlled by the amount of said zinc chelating agent. Furthermore, the electrolyte may contain, as nondepositable metallic brightening agent, alkali-soluble vanadium compounds whose function can be "activated" by adding peroxides during the preparation of the electrolyte.
