PURPOSE:To record a signal while plural tracks are being formed at the same time by extracting a parallel signal of a recording medium on which a serial signal is converted and recorded while the parallel signal is converted into the serial signal. CONSTITUTION:A photodetector 51 is connected to a serial/parallel converter 60 via a recording optical modulator 59, the output of the converter 60 is given to heads 41-42 via a field switch 62 corresponding to four amplifiers 61 and the converted parallel signal is recorded on a recording medium. On the other hand, the heads 41-44 are connected respectively to a reproducing amplifier 63 via a reproducing side fixed contact point of a field switch 62, the output of the amplifier 63 is converted by a parallel/series converter 64 into a serial signal and then extracted. Through the constitution as above, the signal is recorded on a recording medium wound on a head drum while plural tracks are being formed at the same time by plural rotary heads.
