PURPOSE:To remove back pressure from a transmission to an oil pump and reduce the rotation resistance of a starting motor by providing a discharge valve for recirculating oil discharged from an oil pump into an oil sump when an engine starting motor is operating. CONSTITUTION:When the common terminal AM of a starter switch 36 is connected to the starting terminal ST at the start of an engine, a current flows to a starter 22 rotating the engine and an oil pump 16. The current from the starter starting terminal ST also flows to the solenoid coil 34b of a discharge valve 34, moving a valve body 34a in the valve opening direction against a spring 34c. In a normal operation, oil flows into a discharge pipe 28 from an oil sump 20, through a suction pipe 26 and the oil pump 16 and, since the valve 34 is closed, the oil reaches a transmission through a pipe 30. However, since the valve 34 is opened at the time of starting, oil from the discharge pipe 28 flows directly into the oil sump 20. Accordingly, back pressure from the transmission will not come to the pump 16, reducing the rotation resistance of the starter 22, which can be of a small capacity due to a low load applied to it.
