PURPOSE:To aim at shortening the time for jointing hot metal strips with the use of a cutting device, by mating the trailing end of a preceding metal strip with the leading end of the following metal strip after they are cut by a crop shear, and then by caulking and jointing them together. CONSTITUTION:A cutting device A for jointing metal strips is adapted to be laid at a suitable position along a continuous hot-rolling line B for producing a hot strip 1. Further, guide plates 3 are disposed among several conveyer rollers 2. The cutting device A has up- and down-cutters 4, 5 which are opposed to each other and arranged above and below the rolling line B, respectively. The down-cutter 4 is provided with a movable blade 6 and a stationary blade 7 while the up-cutter 4 is provided with a movable cutter 8 and a stationary cutter 9. The shapes of these blades 6 through 9 are so selected that each end of a hot strip has a dove-tail shape after cutting so that hot strips may be jointed together. Accordingly, the cutters 4, 5 are adapted to be operated by hydraulic cylinders 10, 13, and therefore, the trailing end 1a of one hot strip is jointed with the leading end 1b of the other hot strip by caulking.
