PURPOSE:To independently load a tape cassette without using an adaptor by forming a positioning hole to be coupled with a positioning pin arranged in front of a feed reel formed in a standard type recording and reproducing device and using a hole coupled with a brake releasing pin also as a positioning hole. CONSTITUTION:The circular positioning hole 39 is formed in front of the feed reel 31 in a cassette case body 30 an elliptical positioning hole 40 is formed on the back of a winding reel 32. The holes 39, 40 respectively correspond to the 1st positioning holes 11, 13 for the standard type tape cassette 2. The front surface 41 and the left surface 42 of the small-sized tape cassette 1 coincide with the font surface 26 and the left surface 27 of the standard type tape cassette 2. The center of the feed reel 31 coincides with the center of a feed reel 5. In addition, apertures 37, 38 for inserting a loading pole are formed on the front side of the cassette case body 30 so as to coincide with apertures 8, 9 respectively.
