Novel anthraquinone dyestuffs and process for their manufacture

The invention comprises compounds of the formula where R1 is alkylene of 1-6 carbon atoms, R2 is aryl, aralkyl or alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms and may be substituted or R1 and R2 may be linked and nucleus A may be substituted. The compounds are prepared by condensing 1,4-dihydroxy anthraquinone, its leuco compound or a 1-hydroxy-4-halogeno anthraquinone with a compound of the formula optionally in the presence of acid binding agent, or by reacting 1-hydroxy-4-amino anthraquinone with a compound of the formula where hal is chlorine or bromine, in the presence of an acid binding agent.
