PURPOSE:To decrease the useless translation editing jobs and to shorten the translation processing time by selecting or changing appropriately a proper translation processing form in response to the structure of an input original sentence, the required translating accuracy and the executing situation of the translation processing against the input original sentence respectively. CONSTITUTION:A translation part 4 contains a normal translation processing function to translate input sentence for each sentence and a partial translation processing function which divides a single sentence every prescribed translation processing unit to obtain successively the translation candidates for each unit of division and then obtains a string of translation candidates. While the partial translation processing function can also divide a sentence for each maximum sentence length that can be translated after translating an original sentence at and after its head. Then the original sentences read out of an original sentence memory part 2 for each sentence or the original sentences supplied from an input part for each sentence are stored in an original sentence input buffer 4a of the part 4 and translated under the control of an editing control part 3.
