PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer resin having high heat distortion temperature, improved stability to thermal decomposition in molding and high compatibility with ABS resins, by adding a component monomer to give a constant monomer to give a constant monomer composition ratio and polymerizing the monomers by a batch polymerization method. CONSTITUTION:(A) 40-90pts.wt., based on the weight of the formed copolymer resin, aromatic vinyl monomer, (B) 5-30pts.wt., based on the weight of the formed copolymer resin, one or more monoolefinic monomer containing nitrile group and (C) 5-30pts.wt., based on the weight of the formed copolymer resin, alpha,b-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride are subjected to mass or solution polymerization by a bath method to give the aimed resin having 0.3-1.2dl/g intrinsic viscosity [eta] measured in methyl ethyl ketone at 30 deg.C. In the process, the polymerization is started at an initial monomer charging composition calculated from a ternary copolymerization composition formula and a polymerization initiator is added to keep the initiator concentration in the polymerization system constant at all times. The components (A) and/or (B) and/or (C) are intermittently or continuously post-added to keep the monomer composition ratio in the copolymer constant.
