PURPOSE:To miniaturize the titled equipment and improve reliability by rotating a shading roller synchronously with starting of carrying a transmitted original and judging that the tip of the transmitted original arrived at the reading posi tion and the size of the transmitted original from output of a mark detecting means. CONSTITUTION:Various marks are formed on the surface of a shading roller 3. A tip detection mark MS for detecting the tip of an original is formed near the center in an axial direction of the shading roller 3, a mark MA for identify ing a transmitted original DP of a width A is formed in a part from the center in the axial direction to a distance La, and a mark MB for identifying an original of a width B is formed in a part from the center in the axial direction to the distance La. When the tip of the transmitted original DP arrives at the reading position, the image of the shading roller 3 does not appear in picture signals at the time in the part covered by the transmitted original DP. If the size of the transmitted original DP is the width A, the mark is covered by the transmitted original and only the mark MB becomes readable. Thus, as an exclusive sensor for detection is not necessary, the facsimile equipment can be miniaturized.
