The liquid thermometer respectively has as detecting element (5) and as display device a glass member (7 and 6, respectively) in each case which are connected to one another in a fashion essentially capable of moving freely relative to one another by means of a flexible metallic capillary line (10). The ends of the capillary line (10) are fused into the glass members (7, 6) directly or with the aid of sleeve-shaped connecting parts (25, 24), and are thereby joined to said glass members in a gas-tight fashion. The connecting sections fused into the respective glass member (6 and 7, respectively) are matched in terms of their thermal expansion behaviour to the expansion behaviour of the glass material, thus guaranteeing a permanent and stress-free joint. <IMAGE>
