PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the reliability of an ignition device which is at a low cost, by enabling discharge control without using a semiconductor between the secondary winding of an ignition coil and a spark plug, and by enabling ignition energy which allows the ignition plug to prolong the duration time of discharge current to be fed from an auxiliary power source. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a transient detecting means (e) for detecting the transient condition of an engine and a control means (6) for delivering a control signal for a predetermined discharge time from the ignition timing in accordance with an ignition timing signal from an ignition timing discriminating means (f). Further, there is provided an ignition signal output means (i) for delivering ignition signals each for each engine cylinder in accordance with the above-mentioned ignition timing signal and an engine cylinder discrimination signal from an engine cylinder discriminating means (h), and a relay means (c) is driven in accordance with the ignition signals to induce a high voltage through the secondary winding of an ignition coil (b). Further, the ignition signal causes a change-over means (k) to be changed over, and when the engine is in a predetermined transient condition, ignition energy which prolongs the discharge time in accordance with the degree of the transient condition is fed to a spark plug (a) from an auxiliary power source (d).
