Open-mesh woven fabric (1) to increase the stiffness of an elastomeric belt in which it is embedded, comprising steel cords (4) in the weft and thread-like elements (3) in the warp, whereby the weft cords (4) are coated with a stiff plastic layer (5), the surface of which has a capacity to adhere to the surrounding elastomer. Applications, eg. in conveyor belts, and processes for creating an adhesive capacity in or on the plastic coating (5) are also covered.
