摘要 PURPOSE:To effectively prevent a display state from being inverted into another display state in the middle of a write scan of one image plane by preventing a voltage from being applied to a picture element in a fixed direction for a long period. CONSTITUTION:The whole image plane is placed in a 'white' state at a time or sequentially in a step T. The 1st phase t1 is a phase in which a weak electric field is prevented from being applied in a fixed direction continuously, and a signal having the opposite polarity from an information signal applied to a signal electrode group in the phase t1 is applied in a phase t2. When a pattern shown in a figure is displayed, a driving method which does not have the phase t1 is used and then a picture element A becomes black at a scan on a scanning electrode S1, but an electric signal applied to a signal electrode I1 has -Vo continuously after S2 and the possibility that the picture element A is inverted into white eventually is large. For the purpose, all picture elements on an image plane are placed in the 'white' state previously and temporarily and a voltage -3Vo is applied in the phase t1 for 'black' writing, but the display state is not determined in this phase t1 and a voltage 3Vo for writing 'black' is applied in the following phase t2.
