PURPOSE:To make voltage distribution for two high voltage commutators in a high voltage diode uniform, by attaching a metal cap on an ignition coil side high pressure commutator so that it covers more than one half of the overall length of the commutator from the ignition coil side thereof. CONSTITUTION:Of two high voltage commutators 5A, 5B which are disposed in each high voltage diode 5 and connected in series, the one 5A which is connected to the side near to an ignition coil is attached with a metal cap 6. Further, a stray capacity produced between the cap 6 and the commutator 5A increases a stray capacity with allows individual commutator elements stacked in series in the commutator 5A to bypass to the cap 6 side, and compensates the affection of uneven voltage distribution due to the stray capacity between the commutator 5B and the earth. The position of the opened side end face 6c of cylindrical section 6a of the cap 6 is set such as l1/l0=1/2 where l1 is the length of the commutator 5A measured from the lead 8A side end 5A1 and l0 is the overall length of the diode 5A.
