PURPOSE:The reaction between o-phthalodinitrile and aluminum chloride is carried out in the presence of water to produce, reaction-controllability with high reproducibility, the titled compound which is used as a material for charge- generating layer in an organic photoconductor used in a laser printer. CONSTITUTION:In the production of alumichlorophthalocyanin from (A) o- phthalodinitrile and (B) aluminum chloride, water is added to the reaction system, preferably in an amount of 1.6-2.2wt%. The reaction is carried out usually at 180-250 deg.C. The molar ratio of component A to component B is preferably 4:1.
