PURPOSE:To raise utility of biological catalyst, by forming a water-permeable, water-insoluble catalytic layer having a great number of linear protrusions and containing a biological catalyst on the surface of a belt, winding the belt around a core and covering the outermost part with a protecting cover. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a belt 2 using a film comprising a synthetic resin, etc., cloth, net, etc., is provided with a water-permeable, water-insoluble catalytic layer 20 (e.g., calcium alginate layer) having a great number linear protrusions perpendicular to the major axis direction of the belt 2 and containing a biological catalyst such as an enzyme, yeast, etc. An integrated material 21 of both the materials thus obtained is coiled around a core 10 and the outmost layer is covered with a cylindrical protecting cover 23 made of a synthetic resin. Consequently, total surface area per unit volume of catalytic part is large, therefore treatment rate of reaction solution is high, utility of yeast and enzyme is high and flow resistance of reaction solution is relatively small. A bioreactor of this kind can be readily and inexpensively manufactured.
