PURPOSE:To permit a metal strip to convert its traveling direction reliably without contact, by providing a traveling direction converting body of a metal strip drawn from a molten zinc plating bath with a pressing mechanism for preventing floating of the metal strip. CONSTITUTION:A traveling direction converting body 7 comprises a hollow body having an arc-shaped guide surface 8 and has a periphery 11 projecting from the guide surface 8 and is provided with a frame-shaped gas jet holes 12. The air blown into the traveling direction converting body 7 passes through the gas jet holes 12 and jetted to a metal strip 1. As a result, the metal strip 1 travels along the arc-shaped guide surface 8 without contacting with the arc-shaped guide surface 8 so that its traveling direction is converted. At the time, the metal strip 1 at the inlet and the outlet of the traveling direction converting body 7 is prevented from floating by the air pressure jetted to the surface of the metal strip 1 from the gas jet port of a pressing mechanism 9, whereby the contact of the metal strip 1 with the central portion of the converting body 7 is prevented.
