PURPOSE:To make the display density distribution uniform even if counter electrode- side leads are provided in both sides in the lengthwise direction of a display substrate, by extending preliminarily a conductive layer on a counter electrode up to end faces in the breadthwise direction of a counter electrode substrate correspondingly to counter electrode-side lead terminals to improve the current collecting property on the side of the counter electrode. CONSTITUTION:End faces 5a in the breadthwise direction of a counter substrate 5 whose inside face a counter electrode 71 is stuck are set on the same planes as end faces of a spacer 6. A conductive layer 13 stuck to the counter electrode 71 is extended in positions, which correspond to counter electrode-side lead terminals in the lengthwise direction of the substrate, up to end faces 5a in the breadthwise direction of the substrate 5, and a conductive material 14 to which lead terminals 11 and 12 on the side of a counter electrode 71 are soldered is joined to a conductive layer extension part 13a. The contact resistance between the counter electrode 71 and the conductive material 14 is reduced. display electrodes 31 are led out to both ends 2a in the lengthwise direction of a substrate 2, and lead terminals 4 of corresponding display electrodes 3 are connected at intervals of a certain length in parallel and are used together with lead terminals 11 and 11 on the side of the counter electrode 7. By this constitution, the display density on the whole of a display area is made uniform.
