PURPOSE:To obtain a word processor containing a memo function that can register words and phrases even with no use of existing documents, by providing a memo memory means and putting the memo contents of the memory means into a document. CONSTITUTION:When a memo key is operated while the document read out of a document memory 16 is displayed at a display part 26, a memo mode is set and the display is erased. Then a character key is operated for input of words and phrases for memo. Thus these words and phrases are displayed at the part 26 via an input buffer 14. Then a conversion key is operated for retrieval of a dictionary 28 and the pertinent KANJI (Chinese characters) are displayed on the low lines 262 of the part 26 as the candidate KANJI. The memo key is operated again after selection of the desired KANJI for confirmation of the words and phases. Then the memo register number is designated and an execution key is operated for registration of said register number to a memory 20 for memo. Then an insertion key is operated during display of the document of the memory 16 and an insertion mode is set. Thus the memo register number is designated by a numerical key and then an execution key is operated. Then the memo of a designated number is inserted to a document.
