The invention relates to a driver stage, especially for a power switching transistor, having an auxiliary voltage supply, a current regulator for the base current of the switching transistor, and a switching-on overload-capability element, preferably having a logic processor. A transformer of jacketed construction, having a core consisting of ferromagnetic material and having at least one primary winding and one secondary winding is provided as the switching voltage and power transformer for the positive base current, the core of which transformer is as free of gaps as possible and in the case of which at least one winding is constructed as a film winding. The primary and secondary windings of the transformer are wound on one another, with an insulating layer located between them, as cylindrical windings. In this case, a current-carrying winding element of the primary winding is in each case adjacent to a current-carrying winding element of the secondary winding.
