PURPOSE:To reduce Barkhausen noise and to obtain a reproduction output signal having high quality by forming the part for coating a magnetoresistance effect element, which detects the signal magnetic field from a head gap as a resistance change, from a head gap part substantially thinner than the yoke film pattern for conducting a magnetic flux to the above-mentioned magnetoresistance effect element. CONSTITUTION:The thickness ty2 of the flat part 7b of the yoke film 7 and the flat part 8b of the yoke film 8 is made substantially smaller than the thickness ty1 of the front gap part 7a of the yoke film 7 and the back contact part 8a of the yoke film 8 to substantially diminish the internal stress acted by the upper yokes 7, 8 on the MR element 5, by which the axis of easy magnetization of the MR element 5 is stably directed to the longitudinal direction. The ty2 is made about 1/2-2/3 the thickness ty1 when the ty1 is set at 6000-7000Angstrom . A large loss of the magnetic flux arises if the thickness of the part in proximity to the lower core 1 among the respective parts of the upper yokes 7, 8 is also decreased. The thickness is, therefore, made gradually smaller from the lower to the upper side. |
