PURPOSE:To accurately position a magnetic head on a cylinder of a disk by providing an auxiliary support body which has a small coefficient of linear expansion for a head arm support body. CONSTITUTION:When the ambient or internal temperature of a main device body rises, a cylinder shaft and a magnetic head array on a disk 10 slant relatively to enter a heat off-track state. When the temperature rises at this time, the head arm support body 22 expands upward (in Z direction). The auxiliary support body 22 has a smaller coefficient of linear expansion than the head arm support body 20, so the quantity of Z-directional expansion is smaller than that of the head arm support body 20. Consequently, the head arm support body 20 slants backward (toward auxiliary support body 22) to move the magnetic head array until it becomes parallel to the cylinder shaft. The heat off- track phenomenon is therefore eliminated and a data head 12 is positioned accurately on a desired cylinder. Consequently, read/write operation is performed securely at any time even when temperature variation is large.
