PURPOSE:To prevent double feed of recording paper sheets by moving a sheet table up and down when the sheets are transported, putting the uppermost one of the sheets stacked in pressure contact with a pick roller, and thereby ensuring separation of the sheets. CONSTITUTION:When a paper sheet 2a detection signal is given to a control part from a sensor 70, the control part stops a sheet feed motor and rotates an arm drive motor clockwise until a microswitch interlocked with a bracket 22 is deactuated. Now a lift arm 19 rotates downward for a certain angle to sink a sheet table 11. Accordingly the sheets 2 separate from a pick roller 12. At this time, the pick roller 12 is released from the sheets 2, so that said bracket 22 is rotated downward by the force of a spring 25 till position where the microswitch is restituted. In response to signal from this switch, the control part rotates a roller drive motor in the regular direction. This rotation causes No.1 feed roller 4 to rotate in the direction of feeding, i.e. as shown by the arrow B.
