PURPOSE:To obtain the title resin soluble in an organic solvent and excellent in moldability, heat resistance and electrical properties, by reacting tetrafluoroisophthalonitrile with an aromatic dialcohol in a specified solvent in the presence of a water-soluble alkali. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of tetrafluoroisophthalonitrile (A) with at least one aromatic dialcohol (B) [e.g., 2, 2-bis (4-hydroxyphenyl) propane] at a molar ratio of about 1 is reacted in a solvent comprising water and a water-immiscible organic solvent (e.g., nitrobenzene) and being in an amount to give a concentration of 1-50 wt. % at 0-100 deg.C for several tens of minutes to several days in the presence of a water-soluble alakli (e.g., Na2CO3) in an equimolar amount to component B and, optionally, 1-100 mol %, based on said mixture, phase transfer catalyst (e.g., benzyltriethylammonium chloride) to obtain the title resin of the formula (wherein R is a bivalent aromatic alcohol residue and n is 10-100).
