PURPOSE:To make a substrate small-sized and facilitate the sealing work of air purge holes by providing holes, through which space parts formed on a lead electrode array and the outside are connected, in positions which do not face a terminal electrode array. CONSTITUTION:Inside seal materials 11 and 11 and outside seal materials 10 and 10 are placed on both sides of a shutter array part E1 to form a pair of space parts E3 and E3, where a liquid crystal LC is not packed, in parts surrounding lead electrodes 4..., 4... of a segment substrate 1. Air purge holes 14 and 14 connecting space parts E3 and E3 and the outside are provided in one end part side, and outside apertures of air purge holes 14 and 14 are sealed by seal materials 15 and 15 after both substrates 1 and 2 are adhered. Air purge holes are not provided in positions facing the array part of electrodes 5..., 5... of the signal electrode substrate 1. Thus, the signal electrode substrate is made small-sized and connection defects between an external connection conductor and terminal electrodes are prevented.
