PURPOSE:To make it possible to prolong the life of an unground tool, by pickling the outer surface of a workpiece with hydrochloride acid or the like to remove dirt such as oxides or the like, and by ion-plating the surface of the workpiece after the surface toughness of the workpiece being satisfied as necessary by sand-blasting or the like. CONSTITUTION:Only a machining process before heat treatment may be made to form the side surfaces 1 of grooves in the cutting blades of a cutter since their shapes are complicated. Accordingly, the surfaces 1 is still rough and black after heat treatment, and therefore, may be not subjected to an ion-plating process. At this stage sand-blast is made to the shaving cutter which has been beforehand pickled. Therefore, the surface roughness is improved to about 9.0-4.7mum, which allows the ion-plating process. Thus the ion-plating is made to the surfaces to complete a tooth cutting tool which has a prolonged life twice as long as that of conventional tools. |
