PURPOSE:To simplify a printing position designating system, to prevent a mis- designation from occurring and to enhance operability, by enabling a printer carriage and a printing paper set to a printer to be moved by operating cursor- moving keys or the like, and providing a register for storing the position of the printer carriage and a register for storing the range of image data to be printed. CONSTITUTION:A cursor-moving key group 11 is used for moving a printer carriage and for a paper-feeding operation, and data inputted through the key group 11 are transmitted to a printer-controlling part 3. To move the printer carriage 58, cursor-moving keys 11-2, 11-4 in a keyboard part 1 are operated. The printer carriage 58 and a printing head 53 mounted thereon are moved leftward or rightward. In this carriage-moving operation, the printer-controlling part 3 updates the value in a carriage position register 4 which stores the position of the carriage 58. To perform the paper-feeding operation, cursor-moving keys 11-1, 11-3 are operated. A printing paper 55 set on a platen 54 is moved upward or downward, thereby feeding the paper. An image data range register 62 is constituted of a carriage moving direction range register and a paper feeding direction range register.
