PURPOSE:To make profiling data smooth, by calculating center position data of a stylus only from a machine position signal without adding the displacement signal of the stylus to the machine position signal in an NC feed operation. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic unit 26 determines whether stylus displacements (X, Y, Z) are to be added to machine positions (X, Y, Z) based on an operation discriminating signal 32 in calculating a stylus center position. The arithmetic unit 26 calculates the stylus center position only based on a machine position signal in an NC feed operation and the position is entered into a profiling data processing unit 27 as profiling data. The arithmetic unit 26 calculates the stylus center position based on (X+epsilonx, Y+epsilony, Z+epsilonz) and makes it profiling data. Since a fluctuating portion of the stylus is eliminated from the data, it is smooth profiling data.
