PURPOSE:To improve the resistance of a film surface by electrolyzing an Al material on which an anodically oxidized film is formed in a hydrosol formed by adding an aq. basic soln. to an aq. metallic salt soln. thereby incorporating the metallic oxide into the film and imparting specific coloration thereto. CONSTITUTION:The hydrosol of the metallic oxide having about <=300Angstrom diameter is prepd. by adding the aq. basic soln. to the aq. soln. of the metallic salt. The Al or Al alloy on which the anodically oxidized film is formed is immersed and electrolyzed in such hydrosol to incorporate the metallic oxide into the anodically oxidized film by electrophoresis. The metallic oxide is selected from the oxides of Ti, Al, Zn, Co, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cd, Mg, Ca, Ba, Zr, etc. The specific coloration is obtd. and the characteristics including the appearance, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, weatherability, etc., of the anodically oxidized film are improved by the above-mentioned method.
