PURPOSE:To make the temperature of an acoustooptic modulator section uniform in a short response time, by constituting the modulator section of a temperature detecting element, vessel having a good heat conductivity, filler, heating element, and a heating body driving circuit which drives the heating element on the basis of the detecting value of the temperature detecting element. CONSTITUTION:An Al-made vessel 5 for housing a quartz-made acoustooptical medium 1 is composed of a vessel main body 5a having a shape which is obtained when a cylinder is split into two parts and a lid 5b. An electroacoustic transducer element 2 and temperature detecting element 4 are respectively provided on the upper surface and side face of the medium 1. The clearance between the acoustooptic medium 1 inserted into a hole in the side of the vessel main body 5a and the hole and the clearance between the temperature detecting element 4 and its hole are respectively filled with silver paste 3 to that the vessel 5 and medium 1 can closely be coupled thermally with each other. The output of a high-frequency power source 20 is connected wit the electroacoustic transducer element 2 through an appropriate wiring hole and the output is changed into ultrasonic waves and radiated into the acoustooptic medium 1 by the transducer element 2. On the other hand, temperature of the medium 1 is detected by the temperature detecting element 4 composed of a platinum thermal resistance body and the detecting value is supplied to a temperature controller 7 which controls the electric current to be supplied to a heating element 6.
