PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium capable of high-speed recording with high density and high sensitivity, by providing a recording layer which comprises a laminate of a layer of a diacethylene derivative compound (DA compound) having a hydrophilic part and a hydrophobic part and a layer comprising a croconic methine dye and which has at least two joint surfaces of the layer of the DA compound and the layer comprising the dye. CONSTITUTION:A layer of a monomolecular film comprising a croconic methine dye 6 is provided on a base 1, a layer 3 of a monomolecular built-up film of a DA compound with a build-up degree of 2 is provided thereon, and the layer 4 of the monomolecular film comprising the croconic methine dye 6 is provided thereon to form a recording layer 2. This optical recording medium has two joint surfaces of the layer 3 and the layer 4. An organic carrier molecule 5 of the dye 6 and the rectangular part of the DA compound are hydrophobic parts, whereas the circular part of the DA compound is a hydrophilic part. Since the heterogeneous built-up film 2 provided on the base has a high density and a high degree of orderliness, a recording medium can be obtained which shows extremely uniform light absorption at all parts of the recording layer, is capable of optical recording and thermal recording according to the functions of the DA compound and the dye 6, and has the function for high-density high-resolution recording. |
