PURPOSE:To obtain a torque sensor which has invariably constant temperature characteristics without being affected by the material of a shaft by fixing both ends of a rod body made of soft magnetic alloy which has one magnetic strain on the surface of the rotating shaft to the shaft slidably through a metallic support and winding a coil concentrically around the surface of the shaft while leaving a constant gap outside the rod body. CONSTITUTION:A doughnut-shaped ring 3 made of Ni steel is welded onto the shaft and a column 2 made of amorphous magnetic alloy is inserted into the part of a support hole 3a. The diameter of the support hole 3a is smaller than the diameter of the column made of amorphous magnetic alloy, whose elasticity is utilized to perform fixation without any play. The coil 4 is connected to a detection circuit 5. When torque is transmitted to the shaft 1, the shaft 1 twists to cause variation in the magnetic permeability of the soft magnetic alloy 2 having magnetic strain, so that the inductance of the coil 4 varies. The value of the torque is obtained from the variation.
