Novel compounds of Formula I and acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts thereof, wherein Ar is p-methoxyphenyl or 2,4-dimethoxyphenyl, are prepared by one of the following methods; (a) by reaction of the appropriate tert. amylphenylglycolic acid or an esterifiable derivative thereof with diethylaminoethanol or an esterifiable derivative or salt thereof, (b) by reaction of or a salt thereof with a compound tert.C 5 H 11 M where M is Li or -MgX where X is Cl, Br or I, (c) by reaction of ArM with or a salt thereof or (d) by partial hydrolysis of a compound of Formula IV or a salt thereof, and, when required, a base may be converted into an acid addition or quaternary ammonium salt thereof. Pharmaceutical compositions having parasympatholytic and antiperspirant action in conventional forms for oral, rectal, parenteral and topical administration comprise an above novel compound or salt and one or more carriers or diluents therefor. |
