The invention relates to the preparation of a composition for local percutaneous anaesthesia which comprises 1 to 7% of amethocaine dispersed in 0.5 to 10% of an aqueous gel and 81 to 94.5% of water. These percentages are by weight in relation to the total weight of the composition. Stability of the amethocaine is ensured by the gel support. During application to the skin the amethocaine melts and is dispersed in the form of fatty droplets through the gel. These droplets pass through the skin barrier to produce the anaesthetic effect.
