Process for the preparation of water-soluble or water-dispersible polyglycerolated nonionic surface-active agents. This process is characterized by the polyaddition of glycerol chlorohydrin and of a strong base, and preferably sodium or potassium hydroxide in an aqueous solution, to a (poly)hydroxylated compound. This process has the advantage of replacing glycidol, which is usually employed, by glycerol chlorohydrin, which is less costly, easier to store than glycidol, and also of avoiding the flash distillation of a flammable volatile solvent.
